Start Your Fall Kickoff Graphics Now (Yes, In July)

Most churches don’t think about fall kickoff graphics until August — and by then, everyone is scrambling. The new sermon series needs a title graphic. Back to School Sunday needs a flyer. Small groups need sign-up cards. Ministry fair booths need banners. All of it lands in the same two-week window, right as staff calendars fill up with the busiest season of the year.

July is actually the ideal time to start. Print vendors need lead time for banners, yard signs, and postcards. Your social media calendar needs graphics queued up weeks before launch day, not the night before. And your design team — whether that’s a staff member or an outside partner — does better work with breathing room than with a deadline breathing down their neck.

Think through the specific pieces you’ll need well before you actually need them: a sermon series identity that can flex across a stage graphic, social posts, and a program cover; a Back to School Sunday flyer that works for both print and Instagram; welcome cards for first-time guests during your busiest attendance stretch of the year; and updated signage for any ministry fair or connect table. Listing these out now, even roughly, turns a vague sense of “we need fall stuff” into an actual plan.

Start by mapping your key fall dates: kickoff Sunday, your new sermon series launch, Back to School Sunday, and any big ministry fair or small group sign-up push. Once those dates are set, work backward. A graphic that needs to print by mid-August should be designed by early August, which means the concept and copy should be locked by late July.
